Well, he didn't make it to #1, but David has proven that being the runner-up ain't too shabby either.  What David has just accomplished is incredible.  His single hasn't even been officially released to radio, nor is there a video for this song.  Heck, there hasn't even been enough time to create an album cover yet.  But there he is, the #2 song in the nation. 'Crush' sold approximately 166, 000 copies its first week.  To put this in perspective, Jordin Sparks' debut single sold 33, 000 its first week.  David is definitely a force to be reckoned with.  He has silenced the critics that said he was a boring balladeer and would never make it in mainstream music.

Here are some records that David has shattered with his first single:
1.  The highest debut, at #2, on the Billboard Hot 100 this year.
2.  The highest debut of all Idol album singles on the Hot 100.
3.  The highest chart position of all Idol album singles (tied with Kelly Clarkson's 'Since U Been Gone') on the Hot 100.

And if you don't believe me, here it is straight from the horse's mouth:

The thing that gets me the most is that this song is only a drop in the bucket of what David can do musically.  Although 'Crush' is a great first single, David's talent runs so much deeper than this song.  I can barely wrap my brain around the heights that David will soar when his full potential is showcased.

Congratulations David on an incredible achievement.  Your fans are so proud of you!
