My David Archuleta Concert Review

Well, my experience at David's first ever, headlining solo concert tour has come and gone but the memories (and the illegal video footage) will last forever. Here's how the day went down:

We got there a good 3 hours early to camp out in line. When we pulled into the venue's parking lot, what did we see? David's tour bus! We kinda stayed in the car for a while, hoping to catch David coming out of the bus. But that creepy stalker feeling got the better of me and we decided to just get in the already growing line at the front of the venue. Even though we didn't get a glimpse of David, we did see his drummer, Eli! Yay!

I could say a lot of things about our torturous 3 and a half hour wait in the -15 weather. Like how I was certain that my big toes were seriously in danger of freezing right off my feet. Or how a 'guess-what's-playing-on-my-ipod-right-now-in- twenty-questions' game can only get you so far. But I won't. Suffice it to say that it was a painful experience made only a little bit less painful by the kind stranger that handed out free hand warmers. But it was still all worth it for David! Even as I sit here trying to recuperate from the flu that I most certainly caught from that wait in line, I would still do it all over again!

So 6:00 p.m. finally rolls around and the doors STILL aren't open. After multiple 'Let us in!' chants from the freezing fans, they finally let us in. I speed walked my way as close to the stage as possible and found myself in the third row, off centre and to the right. Not too bad!

The opening act was a singer named Lesley Roy. She was okay. She's more of a rocker-ish type but I don't like her Alannah Miles type voice. After her 30 minute set, they finally start setting up the stage for David. There was nothing else to do so I took a bunch of pictures of his mic.

Then guess what happens? They roll out David's keyboard onto the stage and put it right in front of where I am standing!! I have a little freak out as I realize that David is going to be singing and playing the piano directly in front of me! The freak-out only intensifies as dun..dun...dun....

The band walks on the stage and the opening strains to 'Touch my Hand' start playing! Then David walks on stage with a giant, sweet smile on his face and I swear, the whole place lit up from that glowing smile alone! 'Touch my Hand' was awesome, except he didn't get to touch MY hand. Oh well.

I won't talk about every single song because face it, they were all amazing. But I will talk about a few highlights:

Barriers - I loved it when he incorporated all these funny hand gestures to go with the lyrics to the song. And he did it all with this quirky look on his face. I have the video for this, as well as for other songs but I don't know how to post them here. I'll just find a bunch on youtube from other concerts and post them here later.

Zero Gravity - David and his guitarist Mike Krompass (who is Canadian - go Canada!) wrote this song but it didn't make the album. Which is a complete travesty because this song is so unbelievable! It got me jumping, jamming, and foot stomping right away! You'd probably have a hard time picturing David doing a dance/pop track. So you won't believe your eyes and ears when you hear this song! Amazing, amazing song!

Medley of his favourite songs - David did a medley of 'One' by U2, 'Gotta Be' by Des'ree, 'Love Song' by Sara Bareilles (on piano!) and 'I'm Yours' by Jason Mraz. Soooo good and unexpected! I especially love how he held that last note in 'I'm Yours'.

Somebody Out There - This song is not on the original album, but was a pre-order bonus song on iTunes. Again, I don't understand why this song is not on the album. It is one of his best songs, in my opinion. It was co-written by David and Mike. These two make an awesome writing duo, by the way! He sang this song seated on a stool with only an acoustic guitar accompanying him. So beautiful. Love this song. (Coincidentally, it's playing on my iTunes right now as I type).

Waiting for Yesterday - This is a bonus track on his deluxe album on iTunes. I was hoping that he would sing this live and he did not disappoint. Another song that should be on the main album.

Crush - This performance was awesome for obvious reasons. But the best part was, he sang part of this song to ME!!! I swear, I have video footage to prove it! In the first verse, he looked at the camera that my hubby was holding and then he looked down at me and sang "you got me hypnotized, so mesmerized and I just got to know...." Ahh! Best moment ever! I know I had a silly grin on my face the whole time he was looking at me, but whatever! David Archuleta sang to me!

He sang most songs on his album and it was the best 90 minutes of music I've had in a long time! Then, the awesome concert was over all too soon. He exited the stage like a rockstar and the crowd continued to cheer and chant his name. Then, David returned for an encore! He sang 'A Thousand Miles' and 'Angels' on the piano. So beautiful. Then after telling his fans that he loved them, he exited the stage for good.

As you can tell, I had an incredible time. If you are at all into David and his music, I highly recommend going to see him live. He will blow you away. Thanks, David for an amazing experience!
