Long Time, No Blog
My goodness... I haven't updated this thing in almost a month?! And not since David's CD came out... I guess you can tell what's been occupying my time. Well, let's play a little catch-up:
1. November in teacher world = report card writing time. And not just report card writing, but frantic rushing to finish up all the units that need to be covered for that term. I really dislike (hate is such a strong word) how so much curriculum is being pushed on these kids. I really wish we had enough time to go in depth into each topic. But nonetheless, my students did really well this term. Good job, grade fours - Mrs. Malungkit is proud!
2. Parent-teacher interviews: I just finished a grueling 7 hours of back-to-back-to-back-to-back (you get the picture) parent teacher interviews. I was extremely nervous about these. You just never know how the parents will react. But I was pleasantly surprised. The parents were really supportive and seemed to be very appreciative of my efforts. Any kind word from a parent to a teacher is priceless. It really makes all the hard work and stress worth it. I conducted the interviews a little differently this year. I had each student prepare a portfolio of their work this term and they wrote out a 2-page reflection of their strengths as well as areas for improvement. We had 'mock interviews' in class in order to prepare for the actual interview. I even had students come up and pretend they were the 'mom and dad'. It was so hilarious to see all the immature giggling at some of the students I paired up to be parents. I forgot that grade 4 is the year that students start to get all 'crushy' with each other. Ahhh, memories...
3. Other than work, life in general lately has been a bit of a roller coaster ride. Hopefully the roller coaster will come to a stop once I turn 30 years old because I don't think my old age will be able to take it!
That's all for now. Happy Sunday afternoon everyone!
